Hey David,
while I'm glad you got things working, please don't use the Meanwhile library's client identifier if you're not actually using the library itself (at least not inside of IBM). The sametime admin team uses those numbers to do tracking and problem tracing.
You'd be better off either asking Chris Pepin for your own client identifier for the internal infrastructure, or using one of the more generic ones. I've got a short list of the ones I've noticed available at the link below. Note that whenever you start a conversation with a user, their client ID is reported back, so you might be able to discover more identifiers if you logged that somewhere
